Background : I.V. PPIs are not highly rapid in their effects. Can high dose i.v. omeprazole help patients who develop heartburn after being fed hamburger, fries, coca cola, coffee and mint chocolates.

How should this effect your practice?
- I.V, PPIs are not very rapid in effect and do nothing for the esophageal tissue already exposed to acid.
- I.V. PPI is not useful in patients who already have esophageal acid exposure related pain.
