AstraZeneca is being sued for misleading physicians regarding its comparison of Nexium® (esomeprazole) to Prilosec® (omeprazole).
Also, 40 mg of esomeprazole was compared to only 20 mg of omeprazole. Even more stunning is the accusation that AstraZeneca left out the negative findings related to Nexium®.
Currently, none of the PPIs has a superiority claim over another PPI. AstraZeneca attempted to get a superiority claim for Nexium® over Prilosec®, but this was rejected by the FDA.
For the latest on the lawsuit, search Reuters for “Nexium” and ”marketing”.
